EverGlow Exit Signs are tested, evaluated & listed according to UL924 (Underwriters Laboratories performance standard for Emergency Lighting & Exit Signs, UL924). The glow legend is fully legible for 90 minutes after the failure of normal lighting, as required by building and fire codes, as well as NFPA 101, The Life Safety Code. These signs are visible and legible from a distance of 75 feet.

Photoluminescent exit signs need appropriate ambient lighting of at least 5 foot-candles on the sign face at all times. Most building and fire codes require all (electrical and non-electrical) exit signs to be continuously illuminated (24/7). NFPA 101, The Life Safety Code, requires all (electrical and non-electrical) exit signs to be illuminated only while the building is occupied. For comparison, 5 ft-candles is roughly the amount of light needed to read a newspaper held at arm's length. A single light fixture near the exit sign may be all that you need.

Most office spaces have between 20 and 50 ft-candles of illumination, which is more than enough to keep the signs charged. Hospitals, schools, and retail stores typically provide enough lighting as well.

EverGlow code approved photoluminescent exit signs are excellent for use in all facilities- factories, office buildings, schools, hospitals & hotels. With approval by the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) in your locale, these signs can be used as a replacement for "over the door" electrically powered exit signs and as floor level exit signs.

EverGlow signs are an acceptable "alternate material" in most jurisdictions & those that have not yet adopted the recent code language. The use of alternate materials, design & methods of construction and equipment is clearly provided for in the IBC, Chapter 1.
